Community Award Notes and Nomination Form
SOUTH HYKEHAM COMMUNITY AWARD
The South Hykeham Community Award Shield is awarded annually by the Parish Council to the individual, group or organisation who, or which, the Council considers has rendered the most useful service to the village community.
Where appropriate, the service over previous years can be taken into consideration. The Award is normally intended for those who have undertaken voluntary service without regular payment or without having occupied, during the period under consideration, a position of authority within the sphere for which the Award has been made.
The Shield will be kept by the winner(s) for the period of one year on the understanding that he/she/they will be responsible for the award and that it will be returned to the Council in the same condition that it is received, at the end of the period, or earlier if the recipient(s) should leave the Parish.
At the beginning of each year village organisations and parishioners will be approached and invited to submit ONE nomination for consideration together with a brief explanation in support of the nomination. Exceptionally, the Award can be made to the next of kin of a nominee who has recently passed away. A specially prepared form will be forwarded to Organisations at the appropriate time and a copy of this will also be available on demand for any individual who wishes to submit a nomination.
Nominations will be considered by the Council after the closing date has passed and paper voting on an elimination basis will take place, the nominee receiving the least number of votes being eliminated at each round. The last round will produce the winner but in the event of a tie, the Award will be offered to each of the winners to retain for an equal period of time.
The Parish Council shall appoint the Clerk and one other independent person, if available, to act as invigilators and tellers. Where no independent person is available, the Clerk shall undertake the duty alone. On this occasion, the Chairman will not be entitled to a casting vote.
In addition to holding the Shield for one year the winner shall receive a framed certificate to record the award, a gift token and also have his or her name entered engraved on one of the small plaques on the Shield.
The Award is normally made annually but this may be varied at the discretion of the Parish Council.
Late or incomplete nominations will not be accepted.
Closing date Friday 6th March 2026
