April 2026 Chair's Report

CHAIRMAN’S REPORT  2026

1.Volunteer litter picks are held on the second Saturday of alternative months – the next one being 11th April 10.30am assembly point Beechcroft amenity area at the entrance to the woods.  Volunteers welcome.  All equipment will be provided and volunteers are covered by the Council’s public liability insurance.

2. New litterbin locations have been purchased to be sited with the two new Coronation benches which have been installed on Newark Road near the top of Thorpe Lane and opposite the Church looking towards the First and Second World War Memorial Bench.  Suggestions for further bin locations are welcome.

3. The bus shelter was demolished at Newark Road and has been replaced with a more durable and easier to clean bus shelter with clear panels.  The Council is now looking to install another bus shelter at the bus stop near Pennells heading into town.  The Clerk has a site visit with LCC Highways and will then apply for a grant from them to assist with the cost of buying and installing a new shelter.

4. There are plans to review the Joint Neighbourhood Plan so that is in alignment with the National Planning Framework and the Central Lincolnshire Local Plan which are currently under review.  Council has agreed to await the published date of the reviewed policy documents.

5. The Council is keen to become involved in becoming an ambassador for the Armed Forces Covenant and is keen to form a hub with partner councils.  Council would like to support the initiative as there is a very high concentration of veterans in South Hykeham and the surrounding area.  Council has concerns that the veterans may become lonely and isolated once they leave the forces and in partnership with other Councils would like to support the initiative to ensure that the transition to civilian life and beyond offers them support with signposting to other services that can offer help and guidance.
